Pre-ACW Chaos

Post by Reunion_Tower »

These following questions are related to aspects of American decline before the ACW goes off.
1. How common are political assassinations before Sander's Assasination
1b. Does he get assassinated before or after the start date?
2. Is the Murder-rate higher?
3. Does the Rust-belt phenomenon occur as in OTL?
4. Are Separatist/secessionist movements more popular than OTL
5. Harkening back to that teaser that was on the Neocities website, also the discord, mapping the extent of the NW race war, does it really go all the way to Minneapolis or is that just because it is a city with a significant Amerindian population.
6. How are the Television stations similar to OTL, like the content, as I know that Hollywood is essentially dead.
7. Does the Mafia still exist ITTL?
8. Are there more American Ex-Pats than OTL?
9. Does Remote work exist?
10. How does the international community view TTL's Americans?
11. Despite the hightened radicalization, does everybody ITTL's America celebrate the 4th of July?

1. I'm not sure we have any specific sort of outline for how common they are. I would expect political violence is at least on the level of IRL, but Sanders' would be the most prominent assassination since the killing of Goldwater and LeMay following their atomic bombings of Vietnam
1b. It occurs before the start-date. The crux of the civil war hinges on his having been confirmed as President-elect, but being killed before the inauguration, alongside a political mess related to the confirmation of the Vice President-elect
2. I really couldn't say
3. TBD. We've been slightly reworking some of the lore of places like India and China that might make it occur, but whether it's to the same extent as IRL isn't yet decided on
4. Yes. There's a much stronger campaign for the state of Jefferson in NorCal, and elements such as the Portland Antifascist movement, the Idahoans/Cascadians, and the Lakotah all show a stronger desire for non-federal autonomism and/or independence
5. I unfortunately don't know enough to really comment on this
6. We don't really concern ourselves with the cultural milieu of the world, since it's scarcely relevant to the mod except for flavour events. Hollywood isn't "essentially dead", though, afaik. that was something one of our former devs was workshopping but i don't know if it's something that is relevant to the mod
7. yes, but it would also be long past its prime, just like IRL
8. to some extent, but the bulk of them would occur after the Civil War breaks out
9. Yes. the technology for it would have come about much earlier, so it would have emerged earlier as the public adapted and iterated on what the internet could be
10. The international community I think would still have a strong distrust of the Americans and what "The West" supposedly stands for. There are some nations that seek to emulate its global presence/influence such as the EU's Atlanticist nations, but there are obviously others who see it as a failed democracy and crumbling power
11. It would be a very polarised holiday, but I would imagine it's still recognised as an important day in the American psyche
